Description
Deepwings are compact and agile, with sleek, dark fur that blends seamlessly with the shadows of their subterranean world. Their wings are smaller and less radiant than those of their Moonwing cousins, trading shimmer for sturdiness and precision in confined spaces. Their luminous eyes, adapted to near-total darkness, gleam faintly, making them eerie but fascinating creatures to encounter.
Habitat
Deepwings are native to the vast cave systems and chasms of Nathakra’s underground regions, including the Kahzrim Depths and similar dark, enclosed environments. They have evolved from their surface-dwelling relatives, the Moonwings, to better suit their subterranean homes. Their smaller wings allow them to navigate tight spaces with ease, and their dark fur provides excellent camouflage against shadowy rock walls.
Despite their native habitat, Deepwings can sometimes be found in above-ground settlements where underground trade routes meet the surface. They are especially valued as messengers, carrying small scrolls through the vast caverns and tunnels beneath Nathakra.
Uses
Like the Moonwings, Deepwings are prized as messengers, often tasked with delivering vital information through the labyrinthine cave networks. Their natural stealth, agility, and ability to traverse treacherous terrain make them indispensable in the depths. Some dwarven settlements even breed and train Deepwings specifically for courier duties, considering them symbols of trust and reliability in the dark.
