Malachi is one of the New Gods of Nathakra. His corruption transformed not only himself, but the deepest reaches of the Underworld, giving rise to the nightmarish realm now known as the Tenebrous Abyss. Today he is feared as the Harbinger of Shadows and the Lord of the Underworld, commanding legions of undead, demons, and other servants of darkness in his endless pursuit of power.

Malachi is now a malevolent deity. He revels in spreading chaos, corruption, and subjugation, ruling over the dark and twisted realms of the dead and the damned. Malachi rules the Underworld, a realm originally created after the Great Timequake as the final destination for mortal souls. Once a sacred place of peace, remembrance, and judgment, much of the Underworld has been twisted by Malachi’s corruption. Its deepest reaches, now known as the Tenebrous Abyss, have become a realm of torment, despair, and darkness where Malachi’s influence is strongest.

The Tenebrous Abyss is the deepest and most corrupted region of the Underworld. Once part of the sacred realm of the dead, it has become a festering wound upon creation itself, reshaped by Malachi into a kingdom of despair where corrupted souls, demons, and countless horrors dwell beneath his rule.

Fall from Grace

For thousands of years, Malachi faithfully fulfilled the sacred duty entrusted to him by the New Gods. As guardian of the dead, he maintained the natural balance between life and death, ensuring every soul completed its final journey. Yet over countless ages, pride slowly eclipsed humility. Convinced that death itself should rule over life rather than serve it, Malachi abandoned the balance he had once protected. His rebellion marked the beginning of one of the darkest chapters in Nathakra’s history and ultimately led to the Cataclysm, the Age of Despair, and the Great Binding.

Personality

Malachi is a cunning and cruel deity, a master of deception who preys upon the desires and fears of mortals. He is driven by a hunger for ultimate dominion, finding perverse joy in the suffering and subjugation of others. His manipulations are insidious, often turning the virtuous into unwitting agents of his will. Malachi’s cruelty knows no bounds, and he delights in the degradation of innocence and the perversion of purity.

Corruption of Form

The Divine Law binds every soul in creation, from the humblest mortal to the mightiest god. While all who defy its principles ultimately face consequences, only beings of immense divine power possess the ability to wound the fabric of reality itself. No god has transgressed that sacred covenant more than Malachi.

Once, he was said to possess a noble and commanding appearance befitting the guardian of the dead. Ages of corruption, forbidden rituals, and relentless attempts to bend creation to his will have twisted that form into something almost unrecognizable. His once-radiant features have withered into a monstrous visage, his body warped by unnatural growths, blackened fissures, and living shadows that seem to writhe beneath his skin. His very presence distorts the air around him, and those who gaze upon him for too long often struggle to describe exactly what they witnessed, remembering only an overwhelming sense of dread.

To Malachi, these mutations are meaningless. He abandoned vanity long ago in pursuit of absolute power. Every scar upon his body is, in his mind, proof that he has pushed beyond the limits the other gods were too fearful to challenge. What they call corruption, he considers transcendence.

Rivers of shadow flow through jagged, crumbling landscapes, and towering spires of black stone loom against a blood-red sky. Souls trapped in this domain are subjected to unending torment, their suffering fueling Malachi’s strength.

The Abyss is also the birthplace of Malachi’s creations, such as the Vaaku, who serve as his agents in the mortal world, sowing discord and chaos wherever they tread.

Malachi stands opposed to every god who seeks to preserve the balance established by the Divine Law. Though he occasionally allies himself with Nyxara and the other dark gods, these alliances are born of shared ambition rather than loyalty. Like all evil, their unity lasts only as long as their goals remain aligned.

The Great Binding: After centuries of chaos, Malachi’s incursions into the mortal realm were halted when the Archons sacrificed themselves to seal the gateway to the Underworld. This event left the world scarred, but Malachi’s influence lingers, waiting for the day when the seal will break.

The Cataclysm: Malachi orchestrated a catastrophic event that shattered the barriers between the mortal realm and the Underworld. This unleashed waves of undead and corruptive energies, threatening to plunge Nathakra into unending despair.

The Birth of the Vaaku: Through a forbidden ritual, Malachi gave rise to the Vaaku, grotesque beings whose sole purpose is to spread his corruption and enforce his will. This act marked the beginning of his darkest campaign.

Dark Ritual of Unbinding: Malachi orchestrated a complex and forbidden ritual, harnessing the energies of the underworld and channeling them into a concentrated point within Nathakra. This ritual aimed to weaken the fabric separating the mortal realm from the underworld, paving the way for the cataclysmic event that would come to be known as the Infernal Scar. 

Manipulating Mortal Agents: To further his plans, Malachi corrupted mortal agents, whispering dark promises and offering them forbidden knowledge and power.
