From one man’s imagination sprung forth a new world…
The story behind Nathakra is a long one. It’s had its ups and downs. It’s been scrapped and then picked up again, re-worked, re-written and everything over again. Yes, it has gone through the wringer; yet in spite of this, I finally reached a point where I think Nathakra can now thrive and grow. With short stories and even novels in the works, board games, trading card games, maps and more, The World of Nathakra can now stand on its own.
In the beginning, Nathakra was not called Nathakra; in fact it didn’t have a name at all. There were scribbling’s, musings, post-it notes, voice memos; basically ideas were plastered everywhere, but nothing seemed to work. Over time however, I lost interest in the world I was trying to create and it began to collect dust.
A year or so later, I stumbled upon the pile of ideas left behind and began to go through it. I felt it deserved another chance. Maybe a name for this fantasy place would help keep my interest. I tried many different names, all horrible, until Nathakra just popped up. Nathakra…it fit perfectly.
Now I needed to be able to visualize it. I purchased a cartographer program and drew out several different maps. Nathakra was coming to life.
It had a name. It had its home. Now it needed to be populated. I had always loved Greek mythology so mixing that with fantasy came naturally to me. Races sprung up from nothing and suddenly, Nathakra was alive. It could almost sustain itself now and it seemed at last I would be able to put pen to paper and create something that might one day stand among the greats such as Krynn, Middle Earth or the Forgotten Realms, to name a few. However, due to time constraints and personal matters, it took a place on my shelf once again for another year.
Finally, when I was able to return to my project, I continued on creating. I wanted to write a book but I had no experience with such a thing. I turned my focus to gaming. A board game came to mind first. It had to be unique though, something new and fresh. The mechanics of the game proved to be too difficult to master at the time but a trading card game (TCG) seemed to fit perfectly.
Now today, the TCG is nearing completion, the board game is still in the works, and I am attempting a novel or series of short stories. Nathakra went from being a scribble on a piece of paper to what you see today. It’s something that I am indeed passionate about and hope that everyone out there, who takes an interest in my work, will feel the same way as I do.
Welcome to the World of Nathakra.
Sincerely,
