If you’ve been following Nathakra for any length of time, you’ve probably noticed that the world’s history has… evolved.
Over the years, and honestly over the better part of a decade, I’ve rewritten origins, shifted historical events, expanded kingdoms, merged ideas together, and yes… even performed a fair number of retcons. Some changes were small, while others completely reshaped the foundations of the world. That’s simply part of building a living fantasy setting. As the stories grew, so did Nathakra itself.
With the release of Rise of the Last Paladin, and now its Second Edition, I finally felt the time had come to do something I’d been putting off for years.
It was time to establish the Sacred Timeline.
From this point forward, the timeline of Nathakra is no longer a work in progress. It is the historical backbone of the world. Every novel, short story, worldbuilding article, YouTube video, and future adventure will grow from this foundation.
Will things ever change again?
Almost certainly… but only in very small ways. If I discover that something needs tweaking, I’d much rather create a new event within the story itself than unravel twenty-five thousand years of history just to make one detail fit. The timeline is now intended to be as stable and consistent as possible, allowing the world to continue growing naturally rather than constantly being rewritten.
I’m genuinely excited to finally reach this point.
Having a complete, coherent history makes everything else easier. New kingdoms can be founded. New heroes can rise. Forgotten legends can be rediscovered. And perhaps most importantly, Xander’s journey now has a firm place within a living history stretching back to the very creation of Nathakra.
If you are one of those people who like diving in to lore, and you’d like to explore the complete history for yourself, you can find detailed information in The Birth of Nathakra and in the Sacred Timeline Overview.
More than anything, this marks the moment Nathakra stopped feeling like a collection of ideas and truly became a living world. A world with a past, a present, and a future. I’ve spent countless evenings imagining these places, these characters, and these stories, often wondering if I’d ever reach the point where it all finally fit together. Standing here now, looking back over twenty-five thousand years of history that finally feels whole, is honestly difficult to put into words.
Some people may look at all of this and wonder why anyone would spend so many years building a world that doesn’t exist. To them, I’d simply say this: every world begins in someone’s imagination. Before Middle-earth, before Narnia, before Hogwarts, they were just ideas too. Stories have always been one of humanity’s greatest ways of inspiring wonder, hope, and adventure. If Nathakra can do that for even one person, then every hour spent building it has been worth it.
Now comes the fun part. Continuing the journey with Xander and his friends.
Who knows where that journey will lead? Perhaps there are other stories waiting to be told as well. Side stories, spin-offs, one-off adventures, tales from distant kingdoms, forgotten heroes, or entirely new corners of Nathakra that have yet to be explored.
One thing is certain. The foundation is finally in place.
Welcome to Nathakra. Te adventure is only just beginning.
Much love,
Rob ❤️
